What a Great Summer

28 Oct 2011 10:36 | Jeff

Hello Everyone,

Can you believe how fast the summer FLEW by!!!!!  Our club has done great things this summer.  Both in Competition and just at our field.  Lets see what I can come up with from the field:

Have you seen Greg Blackwells fantastic looking Beech 18.  It was a short kit he built during the hot part of the summer.  I didnt witness it fly but I did hear it flies well.  For you who did not know Greg fixes real aircraft and is a craftsman when it comes to these special aircraft he builds.  Check them out

The Fallin Eagles E-Funfly went real well.  This was Russes first time CDing a contest.  At least I think it is.  It went very smooth with Doug handling the mike and raffle station.  Our regulars from CAM Bob and Todd were there and some visitors from Rutherforton NC.  Turn out was low but the economy I believe is keeping everyone close to home.  The weather was great and the food was very good too.  Hollands wife and daughtermanned the consession stand all day.  These are great ladies.  Tell them thank you when you see them. Cliff Whitney donated CA to all registered pilots.  So remember Atlanta Hobby when you order.

If you didnt go you missed a good time.  I was going to go thursday and take my 2 girls with me but work prevented that.  I arrived friday nite in time for the Shrimp Boil.  Did I tell you how we eat very well at these events.  Brent and JJ along with Holland made a great spread.  More than expected showed and I think next year will be as good or better.  The winds were howling but the fun never stopped.  Primo was there. and no injuries occured.  It was good to see him since he moved.  Sat. the winds howled all day but their were still people flying.  I flew foamies most of the day while I was joined by others with their foam creations. The wind was enough to see a lot of people pack up and leave.  BUT sat. nite we ate real good again.  Did I tell you we eat real good at these events.  We had Lobster right off the beach of Woodruff SC.  We all watched Brent and JJ do their thing and the end result was a bunch of fatter people all hanging around telling lies.  The kids played until around 11pm when I finally rounded them up and we went to the tent.  Finally sunday we got out of there at about 1pm.  The weather when we were leaving was picture perfect.  Its always that way when we leave.

This was a great stress relief for myself and Holland.  He was having Car problems and he needed to get away.  Brent rescued him or kidnapped him away.  He was there for a number of days.  I believe he had an excellent time. Russ,Bob Russell, Keith and many more club members were there.  Plan it for next year.

I know the guys were in Mocksville for a IMAC contest but the wind was really blowing. I didnt get any results.  We will get details at the next meeting.  Ask Daniel if has been beat by any girls lately.  He likes it when you ask him that. I know Brent JJ and the Pooles were there.  I believe Justin too but we will have them tell a story or two.

On the Glider side we had the last big DLG contest of the year in Wilson NC.  It was fun and we had people come from California too.  I flew poorly the first day and ended up out of the flyoff in 13th.  Bob Whitney was in the top 10 all of sat. but ran into some bad luck on sun. and end in 15th.  Russ is still recovering from surgery and a  proxy thrower was used because of his shoulder.  I think he was in the middle of the pack.  This contest had 56 contestents so we all did respectable.

Thanks go out to the Boy Scouts.  JJ and his troop were selling BBQ the same day of our Charity Fun Fly.  We purchased the BBQ from them.  Daniel is working toward the end result of Eagle scout so kudos to them and the troop.  Thanks for helping out.

This is a little long as we dont have anyone out of over 100 of us that will take on doing the newsletter.  If we don'tt have a volenteer Ill do it for a short time.  We need someone to step up.  Mike Baker did a great job.  He just got to busy to do it.  Anyone.  Bueller Bueller!!!!!

Thats it.  Start thinking elections.  JJ and Doug are up as thier term is done after Jan.  We should have nominations in Nov. and vote in Dec.  So show up or you may get a spot on the board. 8-)

Fly safe
